Designed specifically for Boy Scouts of America leaders, volunteers, and outdoor program staff, this comprehensive wilderness first aid course meets and exceeds BSA safety requirements for high-adventure activities and remote outdoor programs.

When you're leading a troop deep in the backcountry—miles from the nearest road and hours from professional medical care—your knowledge and skills become the critical difference between a manageable situation and a life-threatening emergency. This hands-on, scenario-based training prepares you to assess, stabilize, and care for injuries and illnesses in remote wilderness environments where evacuation is delayed or impossible.

What You'll Learn:

  • Patient Assessment in the Field - Systematic evaluation techniques, scene safety protocols, and rapid decision-making when help is hours away
  • Trauma Care (S-MARCHE Protocol) - Severe bleeding control, airway management, respiratory emergencies, circulation assessment, hypothermia prevention, and head injury management
  • Improvised Wilderness Medicine - Creating splints, bandages, and patient support systems using available materials like trekking poles, packs, clothing, and natural resources
  • Environmental Emergencies - Recognition and treatment of hypothermia, heat exhaustion, dehydration, altitude sickness, lightning injuries, and weather-related conditions
  • Evacuation Planning & Execution - Building effective evacuation strategies, patient packaging techniques, litter construction and carry methods, and emergency communication
  • Extended Patient Care - Monitoring vital signs, wound management, pain assessment, and maintaining patient stability during prolonged field care situations

BSA Compliance: This course satisfies BSA wilderness first aid requirements for Philmont, Northern Tier, Florida Sea Base, Summit Bechtel Reserve, and other high-adventure bases, as well as council-level trek and camping programs.

Certification: Upon successful completion, participants receive a wilderness first aid certification valid for two years, recognized by BSA and outdoor education organizations nationwide.
